The Derelicts

They were in exactly the right place at exactly the right time with exactly the wrong kind of music for a town that was pregnant to the bursting point with what would become known as “grunge” music, but they would nevertheless become popular, as their generally straight ahead punk rock sound was big and ferocious, with cut-above songwriting. Their songs had hooks and singer Duane had an amazingly powerful voice.

And now, after a 25 year break, they’re back. I witnessed their return performance at a Seattle club in 2016, and it was, if anything, more powerful than their first go-round, more focused and more intense, with hard-hitter Donny Paycheck on drums and Jason Freeman on bass.
